Baking Brief: Pi Day

Pie decorated for Pi Day.

Today is 3/14, or Pi Day. It’s the day that applicants to MIT find out if they were admitted or not, and the day that bakers and bakeries across the country celebrate by turning it into Pie Day, or Pi-themed-baked-goods Day.

Sweet Cupcakes, which has locations in Cambridge and Back Bay, tweeted that the first people to say “Sweetie Pi” got a free Pi Day cupcake.

The LA Times food blog suggested celebrating by making the Times’ Test Kitchen recipe for boysenberry-strawberry glazed pie.

Keeping with the berry theme, Beantown Baker and engineer Jen made a cranberry-apple pie with cranberries she saved in her freezer from Thanksgiving.

Finally, for those who like their Pi Day pie a little more literal, CakeSpy offered up a chocolate peanut butter pie that can be made in the shape of pi. Find the recipe and template here.
